University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Jagadesh Kumar said Wednesday that students with a four-year bachelor’s degree can go directly to a doctoral program.

The chairman said the university can decide whether he offers a three-year honors degree or he a four-year bachelor’s degree.

“The three-year undergraduate program will not be discontinued until the four-year program is fully implemented,” PTI quoted UGC as saying.

UGC was to announce a new policy that would allow for a freer and more flexible framework for undergraduate, research and doctoral programs.

Earlier in March of this year, UGC held a meeting and it was decided to approve guidelines for a more flexible undergraduate training format.

According to the new guidelines being discussed, Semesters 1, 2 and 3 will be devoted to developing an understanding of all major areas of study, including science, social studies, humanities, mathematical and computational reasoning and analysis, and vocational training. should be aimed at. “In terms 4, 5 and 6, students choose an interdisciplinary or interdisciplinary field of study to specialize as a major or minor.
